Very interesting scientific news.

Post by BroadStreetBully on 9/22/2011, 5:01 pm

Now my knowledge doesn't extend much past 9'th grade physics, but this is interesting:

This is quite fascinating if this is true, but one thing i did learn before is if something travels at the speed of light it would not age; what does this mean if something travels faster than the speed of light?

Well going the speed of light would technically allow you to "time travel" into the future.
So faster.....would it let you go into the past?

Well, breaking the problem into simple mechanics got me here:
If something is going under the speed of light, it is following the rules of space and time.
If its going at the speed of light, it's everlasting (currently thought to be impossible)
Going faster then the speed of light should result in the direct opposite of going under it, which would be moving backwards through time.
(Both of which are also thought to be impossible)

There is a few things wrong with this theory, though. For example, in the link above, once the particles move past the speed of light; shouldn't they be lost forever in another time period?

Faster than speed of light travel is a concept that's very interesting. One thought (not quite on the same lines as this discussion but in the same realm) is that the only way to travel faster than light is to compress the area in front of the traveling object and expand the area behind it. NASA's current conceptual model utilizes Dark Matter (a substance we know virtually nothing about) to create both a protective field as well as the means of compression/expansion of space and matter. Thus, the traveling object would, in a sense, speed up time in front of it and slow down time behind it, allowing it to travel faster than the speed of light. This is, however, only one of the conceptual models for faster than light travel.

How about this:
It runs off the same principles as magnets.
I am of course speaking of magic.

Find me something that lets us travel the speed of light and we'll continue to solve the problem :)
